Guwahati, Jan 13: The Congress party is undergoing a notable shift as it prepares for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, who served as the general secretary and senior spokesperson for the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has chosen to step down from his role. This decision carries particular weight given the party’s recent setbacks in the state assembly elections.

The timing of Bhattacharjee’s resignation is crucial, occurring in the aftermath of consecutive defeats in the state assembly elections and signaling a period of introspection and restructuring within the Congress ranks.

The catalyst for this move can be traced back to January 7 when Bhattacharjee expressed his disappointment on social media.

Subsequently, Bhattacharjee announced his formal resignation from the Indian National Congress, Assam, scheduled for January 14. He plans to address the media at the Guwahati Press Club in this regard.

The resignation of Bhattacharjee marks a period of transition for the Congress party, signaling the need for strategic recalibration and a fresh approach in the political landscape of Assam.
