Imphal, June 25: Unidentified armed persons gunned down a construction worker from Bihar and injured another in the Kakching district of Manipur.

This came a week after a trader, also from Bihar, was shot dead in his shop at Churachandpur district headquarters.

Sources said two men barged into the rented house of the two labourers at Wairi Leishangthem Pareng under Kakching police station on Thursday around 6.45 pm and opened fire on them — Madan Yadav (30) and Bharat Yadav (35) — of Bihar’s West Champaran district.

While Madan died on the spot, Bharat received a bullet wound on his left abdomen and was rushed to the nearby private Jivan Hospital Kakching. He is said to be out of danger.

The two were part of a group that was constructing a house belonging to one Naorem Chaoba of the area, the sources said. Minutes after the incident, police along with forensic experts rushed to the spot and carried out a preliminary investigation.

The police have kept Madan’s body at the mortuary of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal East for autopsy. Following the incident, security has been stepped up in and around Kakching Wairi area.
