Kohima, Dec 03: Counting for the Tapi Assembly by-election in Nagaland’s Mon district commenced at 8 am on Sunday. The election took place on November 7 across 23 polling stations.

The bypoll was triggered by the death of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28. The contest is between ruling NDPP candidate Wangpang Konyak and Congress nominee Wanglem Konyak.

A total of 15,256 voters, including 7,788 men and 7,468 women, were eligible to cast their votes in the by-election. Out of the 23 polling stations, seven were classified as vulnerable, and six were considered critical.

Despite robust security measures, the voter turnout during polling reached 96.25 percent. All polling stations were under CCTV surveillance, and they were divided into five sectors, manned by gazetted and central officers.
