Assam reports two new COVID-19 positive cases, tally surges to 34:

Guwahati, April 16: Assam on Thursday reported two new positive cases for COVID-19 with taking the state tally increased to 34.

The new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from the Morigaon district.

Confirming the report, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, two persons from Morigaon district have tested positive for COVID-19 and they both are secondary contacts of Nizamuddin Markaz attendees.

He further said that, the cumulative number of COVID-19 positive patients in the state now stands at 34 and out of that, five patients have been cured and discharged from the hospitals.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted – “Two persons from Morigaon have tested #COVID19 positive. They both are secondary contacts of #NizamuddinMarkaz attendees. The cumulative number of patients in Assam now stands at 34. So far 5 patients have been cured.”

Earlier on April 14, a woman from Dhubri district was tested positive for COVID-19 and she is the wife of a COVID-19 patient.

In the last 24 hours, five COVID-19 patients of the state were discharged from the hospitals after they were cured.

Assam has reported 34 positive cases for COVID-19 so far including nine cases from Golaghat district, six from Morigaon district, four each from Nalbari, Goalpara, Dhubri districts, and one each from South Salmara, Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Cachar and Hailakandi district.

One COVID-19 positive patient from Hailakandi district died on April 10.

The first COVID-19 positive patient of Manipur, who was undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

The 23-year-old woman who had a travel history to the UK tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23 and was admitted to the isolation ward of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.

She first tested negative on April 4 and the confirmatory test report also came in as negative.
