New Delhi, Feb 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi has started selecting candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with party observers gathering potential names across the city’s seven parliamentary seats at the district level.

Amidst speculations fueled by the AAP and Congress alliance in Delhi, there are indications that not all sitting MPs will be fielded by the BJP this time.

According to a senior Delhi BJP functionary, the party is conducting three surveys and analyzing the performance of its seven MPs in the city as part of the candidate selection process.

There’s a buzz that at least half of the current MPs may lose their tickets, with some speculating that all might be replaced.

However, final decisions rest with the national leadership.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP maintained five of its sitting MPs, while Gautam Gambhir and Hans Raj Hans were introduced as fresh candidates in East Delhi and North West Delhi constituencies, respectively.

Despite the AAP-Congress alliance, BJP candidates secured victories with significant margins, outpacing their opponents.

“We are fully dedicated to winning all seven seats for the third consecutive time, despite the alliance between AAP and Congress,” stated another senior Delhi BJP leader, emphasizing the party’s commitment to electoral success.

The candidate selection process involves district-level leaders, including presidents, general secretaries, sitting councillors, previous Assembly poll candidates, state functionaries, district incharges, and co-in charges.

These leaders provided feedback by submitting names of potential candidates, including state office bearers, to the party observers.

The feedback exercise highlighted significant enthusiasm among party leaders to contest the Lok Sabha polls, with suggestions extending beyond sitting MPs to encompass various state office bearers.

The selection process will conclude within the next four to six weeks, with ticket declarations anticipated around mid-April.
