Manipur drug

Kangpokpi, Aug 24: Assam police apprehended four individuals hailing from Manipur, specifically Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, while they were in the process of transporting drugs. This operation took place in Assam’s Cachar district and is a testament to the continuous efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the illegal drug trade in the region.

The suspected drug peddlers embarked on their journey from Churachandpur in a Bolero car, navigating through the state of Mizoram before entering Cachar via the Dholai area. Their intention was to transport the illicit consignment to another state, and they chose an unconventional route in an attempt to evade police detection.

However, their efforts were in vain as the vigilant Cachar police acted swiftly based on specific intelligence.

Late on Tuesday, the Cachar police launched a targeted operation, successfully intercepting the vehicle near the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar in the early hours of Wednesday. This operation led to the arrest of the four individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.

The arrested persons have been identified as follows:

  1. Mamang Haokip (36)
  2. Haobem Haokip (30)
  3. Henboi Haokip (39)
  4. Gogou Paite (30)

Mamang, Henboi, and Gogou are residents of Churachandpur, while Haobem hails from Kangpokpi.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the police’s swift action on social media, highlighting their accomplishment. He stated, “Cachar Police intercepted a four-wheeler vehicle coming from a neighboring state at NIT-Ghungoor NH bypass and seized 104 soap cases containing 1.50 kg Heroin. Also apprehended four accused. Great work. Keep it up Assam Police.”

This operation follows a similar success earlier in the week when the Cachar police arrested three suspected drug peddlers from the Dholai area, confiscating heroin valued at approximately ₹5 crore in the market. The arrested individuals were identified as Anam Uddin Talukdar (39), Bachan Ali Sekh (22), and Fayeh Ahmed Mazumder (21), all residents of the Khulicherra area near the Assam-Mizoram border.

These arrests demonstrate the relentless efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region, highlighting their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.
