Mizoram earthquake

Aizwal, Sep 07: A medium-intensity earthquake struck Mizoram in the early hours of Wednesday. The quake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter Scale occurred 50 km East of Champhai. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the depth of the earthquake was 13 km below the ground.

The NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on 07-09-2022, 00:50:55 IST, Lat: 23.41 & Long: 93.82, Depth: 13 Km, Location: 50km E of Champhai, Mizoram, India.”

Till now, there are no reports of any casualties or collateral damage due to the earthquake. However, panic gripped the area after the tremors. More details are awaited.

On Monday, a powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck China’s Sichuan province. The death toll due to the quake climbed to 65 on Tuesday. Nearly 250 people sustained injuries. Rescue operations are currently underway. The injured have been undergoing treatment.

Last week, an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 on the Richter scale was recorded by the NCS at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. the epicenter of the earthquake was 108 Kilometers in the North-Northeast (NNE) of Diglipur in Andaman and Nicobar island and a depth of around 10 kilometers. No casualties were reported in the earthquake that jolted Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
