Itanagar, July 28: A moderate earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter Scale hit the region northwards of Pangin in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday morning, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) via Twitter. The tremors were felt at approximately 8:50 am, causing a brief spell of concern among residents in the affected area.

The earthquake’s epicenter was situated at a depth of 10 kilometers, and the NCS promptly released the following statement: “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.0, Occurred on 28-07-2023, 08:50:36 IST, Lat: 30.01 and Long: 94.48, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 221 km NNW of Pangin, Arunachal Pradesh, India.”

This is not the first seismic event experienced in the region in recent times. Just six days prior, on July 22, another earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale struck Tawang, a district in Arunachal Pradesh. The earlier earthquake occurred at 6:56 am and had a shallower depth of 5 kilometers.

The NCS provided the details of the earlier event as well, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.3, Occurred on 22-07-2023, 06:56:08 IST, Lat: 27.44 and Long: 92.51, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, India.”
