Churachandpur, Mar 01: In Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh revealed that significant progress has been made in addressing the recent Churachandpur arson incident, with eight FIRs filed and two cases transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

During the ongoing 5th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Biren Singh addressed the concerns raised by Congress MLA Keisham Meghachandra Singh regarding the Churachandpur incident.

He assured that the state government is taking comprehensive measures to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure a thorough investigation.

Providing further details, Chief Minister Biren Singh disclosed that eight FIRs have been lodged in connection with the unfortunate events.

Two cases involving suspected militant involvement have been handed over to the CBI. Authorities have identified 20 individuals allegedly involved in the arson and vandalism.

The Churachandpur incident, characterized by an attempt to set fire to and vandalize government buildings including the DC complex and SP office, has drawn strong condemnation.

Chief Minister Biren Singh highlighted the alarming nature of the incident, noting the presence of individuals reportedly armed with AK-47s among the mob.

In response to instigative messages on social media, an FIR was also filed against an individual accused of spreading hate speech just hours before the violence erupted.

Despite attempts to damage government property, security forces managed to prevent extensive destruction, safeguarding essential records and documents.

Chief Minister Biren Singh emphasized the government’s proactive approach to digitizing official documents to mitigate the risk of loss during unforeseen circumstances.

He clarified that the Churachandpur incident unfolded following the suspension of a head constable in the district, an action undertaken under legal protocols and official duties.

Efforts to restore peace and ensure accountability in the wake of the Churachandpur incident remain ongoing, with the state government committed to upholding law and order while pursuing justice for those affected by the violence.
