Dibrugarh, May 15: On May 15, the Election Commission of India approved the nomination form of Amritpal Singh, the incarcerated chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’.
Singh, presently imprisoned under the National Security Act (NSA) at Dibrugarh Jail, Assam, has filed his candidacy for the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab.

Notably, voting in Punjab is scheduled for June 1.
The Khadoor Sahib constituency holds significance due to its large Sikh voter base, constituting 75.15 percent of the electorate in the state.
Moreover, it is the sole constituency that spans across all three regions of Punjab – Malwa, Majha, and Doaba, often referred to as ‘Mini-Punjab’.
