Kohima, April 26: Extreme weather conditions in Nagaland have led to a challenging situation for four election officers, who found themselves trapped in a landslide while returning from duty, causing significant disruption to their journey.

According to a report received by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the four presiding officers, who were stationed at Sotokur GHS, were traveling back to Sotokur village in a Tata Sumo vehicle after completing their election duties.

However, their journey was interrupted between Chassir and Y. Anner village when their vehicle became stuck due to debris from a landslide or mudslide.

Faced with this predicament, the officers had no choice but to continue their journey on foot from the site of the incident to reach the nearest village.

The road they were traveling on had been completely blocked by landslides or mudslides, and heavy rainfall had also washed away a portion of it.

In response to the situation, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in Shamator was activated to address the issue.

Efforts were made to clear the debris and undertake temporary repairs to the road. Despite several days of work, the road remained impassable, causing inconvenience to travelers.

After continuous efforts, progress was made, and the road was eventually reopened up to Muleangkiur village before reaching Chassir village.

However, restoration work is ongoing, with the DDMA Shamator collaborating with the Public Works Department (National Highways) to restore motorable roads in the affected areas
