New Delhi, April 20: Elon Musk’s highly anticipated visit to India, initially slated for April 21 and 22, has been postponed due to pressing Tesla commitments.
Musk expressed regret, citing “very heavy Tesla obligations” as the reason behind the delay but expressed eagerness to reschedule later in the year.
The Tesla CEO’s visit aimed to mark the company’s official entry into the Indian market, with plans to unveil investments of $2-3 billion for a manufacturing facility dedicated to entry-level cars.
This move aligns with India’s recent policy adjustments, aiming to attract foreign investments by reducing tariffs on imported vehicles for companies investing locally.
Additionally, Musk intended to introduce Starlink, a satellite network providing high-speed internet, further diversifying Tesla’s offerings in the Indian market.
The visit was poised to include discussions with Indian space tech startups, showcasing Musk’s interest in fostering collaborations within India’s burgeoning space sector.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has met Musk on previous occasions, was scheduled to meet him again during this visit.
