Silchar, May 27: A devastating fire engulfed the Ram Nagar locality in Silchar, Assam, on Friday, leaving eight residences completely destroyed.

The fire, suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit, originated in one of the rental homes belonging to Dayanand Singh, the landlord. It quickly spread to the neighboring rented houses, reducing valuable possessions worth lakhs of rupees to ashes.

While the fire wreaked havoc, causing extensive damage, fortunately, there were no casualties reported. However, an additional incident of a cylinder blast occurred during the blaze.

Upon receiving the distress call, three fire tenders promptly rushed to the scene. With the assistance of local residents, they managed to bring the flames under control and extinguish the fire.

Following the incident, affected residents of the area directed blame toward the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), alleging that the mishap was a result of negligence on their part.

Authorities are now conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage. Measures will be taken to provide necessary assistance and support to the affected families in their time of need.
