Meghalaya reports its first COVID-19 positive case.
Guwahati, April 13: First COVID-19 positive case in Meghalaya reported on Monday after a Shillong based doctor tested positive for COVID-19.
Confirming the report, the Meghalaya Chief Secretary said in a press release that – “One doctor from Bethany hospital, Shillong has been tested COVID-19 positive on Monday.”
“All residents of the state who may have visited Bethany hospital on or after March 22 are requested to immediately register themselves by calling 108 or visiting the link of http://meghalayaonline.gov.in/covid/login.htm,” the Meghalaya Chief Secretary said in the press release.
On the other hand, Meghalaya Health minister AL Hek said that, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has already directed the state Health department to ensure that, no patient, doctors, nurses and other health workers from the particular hospital where the doctor was working come out from the hospital premises.
The Meghalaya government has turned the hospital located at Shillong into a quarantine camp.
The Meghalaya Health minister also said that, his department is now trying to find out all persons who were in contact with the doctor.
With the fresh COVID-19 positive case, a total of 38 positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected in the North-Eastern region including 30 cases from Assam, two each from Manipur and Tripura and one each from Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
On the other hand, East Khasi Hills district magistrate has imposed 48-hour curfew in the Shillong agglomeration area from 6 am of April 14 except essential service.
