Fisrst phase of COVID19 vaccination drive starts in Guwahati

Assam, Jan 16: The Covid19 vaccination drive launched in Assam, Guwahati on Saturday with a total of 2.90 lakh people to be inoculated in the first phase of the drive.

A total of 2.90 lakh people — including 1.90 lakh health workers and nearly 1 lakh frontline workers — will be vaccinated at 65 centres in 33 districts of the state in the first phase.

He also said that it will take eight weeks to complete the first phase of COVID19 vaccination and the vaccination drive in Guwahati will be done four days a week.

Himanta Biswa Sarma further said that 6,500 people in the state will receive Covid vaccine per day.

The first three COVID-19 vaccines were given to Dr Umesh Chandra Sarma, Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora and Dr Ilyas Ali at the GMCH on Saturday.

Giving details about the COVID-19 vaccines, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a person would be immunised 45 days after the first dose. The second dose would be given 28 days after the first one, and after taking the second dose, it takes 14 days for a person to be immunized.

The Assam government has requested the Centre to vaccinate Covid vaccine to government employees who will be engaged in the assembly poll duties in the state, Sarma said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the world’s biggest vaccination drive by pressing the button to kickstart the event across India. Launching India’s vaccine drive in the fight against Covid-19, PM Modi said only two other nations have conducted such massive vaccination drives US and China.
