Former CM of Tripura seek immediate re-appointment of agitating terminated teachers

Tripura, Dec 11: Former CM of Tripura, Manik Sarkar seek immediate re-appointment of agitating terminated teachers.

Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has demanded the State Government for immediate re-appointment of the 10,323 terminated teachers as the protest has entered its fifth day on Friday.

13,000 non-teaching posts were created by the then Left Front Government, which has been cleared by the Supreme Court. These posts can be easily revived by a simple cabinet decision and the retrenched teachers can be accommodated in these posts,” said Manik Sarkar.

The Tripura High Court had ordered the termination of services of 10,323 Government teachers, citing ‘discrepancies’ in the selection process. Later, the Supreme Court of India upheld the decision of the Tripura High Court.

Meanwhile, the terminated teachers are continuing with their indefinite sit-in demonstration at Paradise Chowmuhani in Agartala.

The agitating teachers rejected the offer made by Chief Minister Biplab Deb to compete for the vacant 9,000 posts in various Government departments notified by the State Government.

Instead of agitating, these teachers must apply for the vacant jobs notified by the Government,” Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb said.

Reacting to the offer of Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Joint Movement Committee has termed the offer impractical.
