Fresh polls announced in 4 polling stations of Assam

sAssam, April 10: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered fresh polls in four polling stations in Assam of three constituencies that were held during the second phase of elections on April 1.

In a letter to Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer on Saturday, the ECI said that repolls will be held for Indira MV School (Right) polling stations in Assam, under Ratabari constituency, 463 no. Madhya Dhanehari LP School under Sonai constituency, and A Khothlir LP School and Mualdam LP School polling station under Haflong constituency.

The votes cast on April 1 for these booths are to be considered “void” and repolling will take place on April 20 (Tuesday) from 7 am to 6 pm.

The polled EVM of Indira MV school was found being transported in the personal vehicle of BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul after polling concluded for the second phase in Assam’s Karimganj.

This turned into a huge controversy and the polling party in question were suspended.

In Haflong, 171 votes were cast even though 90 people were eligible to exercise their franchise in 107(A) Khotlir LP School, an auxiliary polling station of the main voting centre at Mouldam LP School.

The head of that interior village refused to accept the voters’ list and brought a list of his own. Then, the people of the village voted according to that list,” an official said.

The bodyguard of Assam Assembly Speaker and BJP candidate Aminul Haque Laskar opened fire, injuring at least three people at the 463 Madhya Dhanehori LP School of Sonai constituency in April 1.

Voting for Assam Assembly Elections were held in three phases on March 27, April 1, and April 6. The votes will be counted on May 2.
