Imphal, Feb 16: In the wake of escalating violence and arson incidents in Churachandpur District, the Government of Manipur has taken decisive action to quell the unrest and ensure public safety.

Internet Services Suspended

To prevent further disturbances and the potential misuse of social media platforms to fuel tensions, the state government has ordered the temporary suspension of mobile internet and data services in the entire revenue jurisdiction of Churachandpur District.

This suspension, effective immediately from 1:40 A.M. on February 16, 2024, will last for five days, until February 21.

Preventive Measure

Citing Rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, the government emphasizes the importance of maintaining public tranquility and communal harmony. The measure aims to curb the dissemination of inflammatory content and false rumors that could exacerbate the volatile law and order situation.

Government’s Commitment to Peace

A spokesperson from the Home Department affirms that the suspension is a preventive and precautionary step to protect the lives and properties of citizens. The government remains steadfast in its commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of all residents in Churachandpur District.
