Sports, Nov 19: After facing setbacks in consecutive T20 World Cups, Mohammed Shami has emerged as a standout performer in the ODI World Cup 2023, leading India’s pace attack and contributing significantly to their title charge.

His remarkable performances in the tournament have earned him praise and recognition as one of India’s greatest white-ball bowlers. In a crucial match against New Zealand, Shami delivered the best bowling effort by an Indian in ODIs, securing 23 wickets in just six matches, including seven wickets in a challenging semi-final.

However, Shami’s journey to success wasn’t without challenges. Following India’s defeat to Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup, he faced severe trolling and online abuse. Despite finding support from teammates, the loss affected India’s campaign, leading to an early exit from the group stages.

Despite his impressive performance in the Gujarat Titans’ IPL title-winning campaign, Shami faced uncertainties in white-ball cricket. His T20 World Cup 2022 stint saw limited success, and doubts loomed over his role in the Indian team for the 50-over World Cup.
