Gangtok: Thakurbari temple to be converted into the Urban Vaccination centre

Sikkim, May 8: Sikkim government announce that the Thakurbari Temple in Gangtok is converted into the Urban Vaccination centre. The action comes into force with immediate effect in the area specified above and shall remain valid till further orders.

The notice says, “As the second wave of Covid-19 is a serious threat to human life and the government of Sikkim is taking various measure to curtail the transmission of the virus in the state. Social distancing, avoid public gathering and mask-wearing is very essential to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus in the district and the state.”

“Home Department, Government of Sikkim had also ordered on measures containment of covid-19 on 22nd April 2021. Vaccination is one of such measures to help control the transmission of viruses. Now therefore in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, I Ragul K. IAS, District Collector cum Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, East do hereby notify: “ThakurBari Temple (hall/premises)” in Gangtok as designated a place for urban vaccination under the east district,” the notice read.

Earlier Urban Vaccination centre was set up in Old STNM Hospital but due to the rise in the cases of Covid, all OPD shifted from New STNM HOSPITAL to Old STNM Hospital. Hence the government decided to set up a Vaccination centre in Thakurbari (Mandir).

If any person fails to comply with these directions he/she shall be held responsible and action under section 34 of Disaster Management Act, 2005 & 188 of Indian Penal Code, 1860, shall be initiated against them,” added in the notice issued by the government.

Sikkim recorded five new COVID 19 fatalities on May 8, taking the state’s death tally to 165. All five deaths were reported in STNM Hospital. Sikkim has reported 28 deaths due to COVID 19 in the past 16 days.

The state also recorded 200 new cases on Saturday, with a whopping 1,699 cases recorded in May. The state’s cumulative COVID 19 tally stands at 9,651 cases.

There are 2,528 active cases in the state, with 65 recoveries recorded on Saturday. There are 190 people admitted in various hospitals currently, with 31 new admissions on Saturday. There are 12 people admitted in ICU and 166 are in High Dependency Unit and COVID wards, Central Referral Hospital and STNM Hospital in Gangtok.

East Sikkim recorded 1,158 cases in the past eight days. On Saturday, East Sikkim recorded 121 new cases, taking the district tally to 7206 cases.

South Sikkim recorded 58 cases. The district has a total tally of 1,478 cases so far.

Seventeen new cases were recorded in West Sikkim, with 157 cases were recorded this month. The district has a cumulative tally of 597 COVID 19 cases recorded so far.

Four new cases were recorded in North Sikkim with 58 cases being recorded in May. The district has a cumulative tally of 165 COVID 19 cases so far.

Sikkim conducted 682 COVID 19 tests, with 520 RT PCR tests resulting in 145 people testing positive. 150 RAT tests were done, resulting in 52 testings positive. Three out of 12 tests resulted in COVID 19 positive in Truenat-cbnat tests.
