Agartala, March 17: In a shocking incident reported from Tripura, a group of women allegedly lynch a 46-year-old rape accused. The women tied the man to a tree and beat him to death in Dhalai district of Tripura.

The alleged lynching took place under Gandacherra police station, police said on Wednesday. The deceased had spent eight years in prison in connection with a murder case.

The accused allegedly raped a five-year-old girl in a nearby jungle. He took the victim to a jungle when she accompanied her mother to a religious event. The girl was later abandoned by the accused in the jungle, a report said.

As per the report, the local residents came to the rescue of the girl as they heard her cries and admitted her to a hospital.

The locals alleged that the victim was last seen with the accused and blamed him for the crime. Later, the victims disrupted traffic at Gandacherra-Amarpur highway seeking the arrest of the accused.

However, the accused was later caught by a group of women who tied him to a tree and mercilessly thrashed him following which he lost consciousness.

The man was later rescued from women and admitted to a hospital. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police said they have initiated a probe into both incidents.
