helicopter service

Aizawl, Sept 27: The first helicopter service connecting Churachandpur in Manipur and Aizawl in Mizoram was inaugurated on Wednesday. This crucial air link marks a significant step forward in improving accessibility in the Northeastern states and was established under the Helicopter Service Scheme, a part of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India.

The inaugural flight, which took place today, saw ten passengers boarding the helicopter in Churachandpur bound for Aizawl. On the return journey, five passengers took the flight. The helicopter service promises to significantly reduce travel time, with a normal flight duration of approximately 40 minutes, as compared to the lengthy road journey previously required.

To make this mode of transport accessible to a wide range of passengers, the Manipur Government has set the fare for the Churachandpur to Aizawl route at Rs 4,500, while the return journey from Aizawl to Churachandpur is priced at Rs 6,000.

Operated by M/s Global Vectra Helicorp Limited (GVHL), this helicopter service has garnered enthusiastic support from travelers. One passenger expressed their delight, highlighting the relief this service brings to the public. The road journey between Churachandpur in Manipur and Aizawl in Mizoram typically spans about 330 kilometers, often proving time-consuming and challenging. The introduction of the helicopter service offers an alternative that is both efficient and timely, particularly beneficial during urgent situations.
