Guwahati, June 20: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced the anticipated completion of the Mangaldai bypass by 2025, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to enhancing regional infrastructure.
The bypass project, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and fostering economic growth in Mangaldai, is poised to significantly improve local connectivity and ease travel for residents and commuters.
During a media briefing, Sarma underscored the importance of expediting construction efforts, noting, “Our goal is to finish the Mangaldai bypass by 2025.” He highlighted the project’s strategic significance in bolstering transportation efficiency and promoting socio-economic development across the region.
Sarma further detailed that the Central government has allocated a total of Rs 341 crore for the project, with Rs 95 crore already disbursed for land acquisition. The foundation stones for seven major road initiatives, collectively worth over Rs 1,000 crore, including the NH 15 Mangaldai bypass, were ceremonially laid at Mangaldai College Playground.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, remotely inaugurated the Rs 535 crore four-lane highway project under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) from New Delhi.
In his address, Gadkari praised Assam’s rapid developmental strides under Chief Minister Sarma’s leadership.
He outlined the significant investments made in road infrastructure across Assam and the Northeast since 2014, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, projecting an additional investment of Rs 1.5 lakh crore for new road projects in the coming years.
Additionally, Sarma visited the proposed site for the Darrang Medical College to oversee the land allocation process, reaffirming the government’s commitment to expanding healthcare facilities in the region.
