West Bengal, March 4: BJP’s latest heavyweight recruit Suvendu Adhikari has said even if the party doesn’t field him from Nandigram against TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, he will ensure that she loses the contest in Nandigram, which is considered a bastion of the Adhikari.
Ahead of his Delhi visit, Suvendu Adhikari said, “Whether the party nominates me or not, I will defeat Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, this is my responsibility.”
Suvendu Adhikari has represented Nandigram as a Trinamool Congress MLA for years before he quit to join BJP ahead of the 2021 Bengal elections. Mamata Banerjee has thrown an open challenge to Suvendu with her decision to contest from Nandigram in a high-stakes battle.
However, BJP is yet to confirm Suvendu Adhikari’s name for the Nandigram battle against Mamata Banerjee.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had emerged as the main rival in Bengal by winning 18 of 42 seats. BJP has now vowed to win over 200 seats in the upcoming Bengal elections to end Mamata Banerjee’s 10-year rule.

West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday said that the party’s state unit has shortlisted on an average of 4-5 names per seat for the initial two phases of polling in the state and the list of candidates for those phases will be finalized on March 4.
Elections in Bengal will be held in eight phases between March 27 and April 29. Votes will be counted on May 2.
