Important Facts On PM Modi's New Car Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Guard

PM Modi, Dec 29: A new car has now been introduced in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy, a Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Guard. Prime Minister Modi was recently spotted in the new Mercedes-Benz Maybach S650 Guard at Hyderabad House in Delhi where he arrived to meet the Russian President Vladimir Putin during his short visit to India earlier this December.

The car has a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine which is capable of generating 516 bhp maximum power and 900 Nm peak torque. The tow speed of the car is said to be 160 kmph. The car has special run-flat tires so that the car would not need to stop even in case of damage or puncture.

There was a significant discussion between the actual price of the car and what the media speculated the price was. Mercedes-Benz Maybach S650 Guard costs around Rs 12 crore but the actual price of this car to be used in PM Modi’s fleet has not been disclosed.

Vehicles used for protection are required to be replaced every six years by the SPG security detail. PM Modi used the previous cars for eight years. As a matter of fact, an audit raised objections over this issue and reported that it posed a danger to the lives of those protected.

This new car is not an upgrade but a routine replacement of the car from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy as BMW stopped making the model which was used previously. PM Modi’s convoy also has cars like BMW 7 Series High-Security Edition, Land Rover Range Rover Vogue, and Toyota Land Cruiser.

Widespread discussion on the security features of the protectee’s car is not in the national interest as if the information is put in the public domain it only threatens the life of the protectee.

In addition to putting in the public domain a lot of unnecessary details, a widespread discussion about the security features of the protectee’s car is not in the public interest. Discussions of this nature only threaten the life of the protectee.

Sonia Gandhi in the past used Range Rovers that were actually procured for the then Prime Minister, as opposed to the current protectee who hasn’t indicated any preferences regarding which vehicles she wants to use.
