Gangtok, Nov 16: The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Border Roads Organization (BRO), has successfully completed the construction of the Chungthang Bailey Bridge over the Teesta River in Sikkim.

This significant achievement reconnects the flood-affected areas of North Sikkim with the mainland, which had been cut off since the night of October 3, 2023. The completion of the bridge facilitates the smooth movement of vehicles and the efficient delivery of relief materials to the affected regions.

The Bailey Bridge, spanning 200 feet, stands out as an engineering marvel, being the longest and heaviest single-span Bailey bridge that can be launched.

The Border Roads Organization, working tirelessly around the clock, initially constructed the concrete abutments, followed by the bridge construction carried out by Trishakti Sappers over a period of five days.

The bridging operation involved the dedicated efforts of engineer troops from the Trishakti Corps and BRO, employing various heavy earth-moving plants. This accomplishment underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to nation-building and its unwavering support for the people of the country during times of crisis.
