The country’s grand Republic Day celebrations on January 26 at Rajpath in New Delhi will once again be scaled down amid a sharp surge in the Covid-19 cases across states and Union territories.

There will be no foreign dignitary as chief guest at the Republic Day parade like last year. The leaders of five Central Asian nations—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan—were invited by India to be chief guests at the event. However, India has now decided not to host the leaders.
