IPL 2021 suspended as players across multiple team test positive for COVID - 19

IPL 2021, May 4: IPL 2021 has been suspended for this season, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla told news agencies today.

Earlier today, a PIL was filed in the Bombay High Court seeking directions to BCCI to either postpone or cancel the ongoing edition of the event.

The resources being deployed for cricketers should be used to help Covid-19 patients, said the petitioner.

This came two days after a similar plea filed in Delhi HC. Mumbai HC was to hear the PIL on Thursday, reported.

This year’s IPL reached its halfway mark yesterday. However, yesterday’s match between KKR and RCB, to be played in Ahmedabad, had to be postponed after reports emerged of the two players’ positive tests.

IPL suspended: IPL 2021 was originally slated to be held across six cities/venues — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. Chennai and Mumbai already hosted their quota, and the mid-stage of the tournament was currently on in Ahmedabad and Delhi.
