Imphal, Jan 14: The owner of a jewellery shop, Naorem Krishnadas (36), fell victim to an attack by suspected armed miscreants in Imphal city, Manipur, on January 14.

Krishnadas, proprietor of Muhindro Jewellery in Wahengbam Leikai, was allegedly shot at and sustained a bullet injury on his left thigh during the assault.

The incident unfolded as Krishnadas, along with three companions – Naorem Ramdas (28), Naorem Sanjoy (35), and Naorem Robindas (34) – was heading to Kakching after closing the jewellery shop.

According to sources, unidentified masked individuals intercepted their vehicle near Waithou Chingon, brandishing small arms.

The armed assailants forcibly commandeered their vehicle and drove it towards Canchipur.

During the incident, the attackers looted gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh.

Additionally, they fired two rounds of bullets, with one hitting Krishnadas on his left foot.

Following the assault, Krishnadas was initially admitted to RIMS and later transferred to Shija Hospital for further medical attention.

The incident underscores the alarming security situation and criminal activities in the region, raising concerns about the safety of businesses and individuals in Manipur.

The police are actively investigating the case to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
