Deoghar, April 12: Rescue operations of ropeway accident at Trikut hills close to Baba Baidyanath Temple in Deoghar district of Jharkhand came to an end after all passengers in cable cars were rescued Tuesday after being trapped for over 40 hours.
The death toll climbed to four after a person fell down from a helicopter while being airlifted on Monday. Rescue operations are on by the combined teams of IAF, Army, ITBP, NDRF, and district administration.
The Jharkhand High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the Deoghar ropeway accident and has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
During the rescue operation on Tuesday, a woman fell while being rescued. Rescue personnel tried to bring her to the ground from the cabin.
The accident took place on April 10 after two cable cars in a ropeway collided with each other at Trikut hills in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district even as the Indian Air Force on Monday continued its operation to rescue stranded tourists.

Rescue operations had to be stopped after sunset as the ropeway runs through a picturesque yet densely forested area surrounded by hills, access to which is difficult except by air. Also making rescue from the ground difficult is the fact that the trolleys are suspended at heights of up to 1500 feet.
Two persons have died so far including one on Monday who fell to his death during a botched helicopter rescue attempt, while 12 persons who were injured are being treated in hospitals. Acting on the request of the state government, the IAF has deployed one Mi-17 and one Mi-17 V5 helicopter early in the morning. The IAF contingent also has a component of IAF Garud Commandos to conduct the operations.
Trikut ropeway is one of the highest vertical ropeways and has a maximum lens angle of 44 degrees. It has been built some 20 km from Baba Baidyanath Temple and is about 766-meters-long. The Trikut hill is 392-metres-high. The ropeway has 25 cabins and each can seat four people.
