1. The central government picks fifteen northeastern destinations for development under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiative.

Guwahati, Nov 24: The central government selected fifteen destinations in the northeastern region for development under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiative. This initiative aims to boost tourism in the region known for its rich natural and cultural heritage. Among the selected destinations, two are chosen from each of the seven northeastern states, with an additional one from Manipur.

During the 11th International Tourism Mart (ITM) held in Shillong from November 21 to 23, officials from the Tourism Ministry provided updates on the PRASHAD program. They shared details about the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.

Under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) scheme, the ministry announced a sanction of Rs 29.32 crore to develop four significant iconic religious tourism sites in Meghalaya. These sites include Nartiang Shakti Peeth, Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church, Aitnar Pool, and Charantala Kali Temple.

The Nartiang Shakti Peeth, believed to be a Shakti Peeth, is a centuries-old Durga temple. The Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church is located in Sohra, East Khasi Hills. Aitnar Pool is a site known for a popular festival in West Jaintia Hills, and Charantala Kali Temple in the West Garo Hills district is dedicated to Goddess Kali.

The selected destinations are as follows: Nacho and Mechuka from Arunachal Pradesh, Shillong and Sohra from Meghalaya, Aizawl and Champhai from Mizoram, Jorhat and Kokrajhar from Assam, Moirang (Bishnupur) from Manipur, Niuland and Chumukedima from Nagaland, Gangtok and Gyalshing from Sikkim, and Agartala and Unakoti from Tripura.
