Imphal, Oct 16: Kuki-Zo women from Manipur’s Kangpokpi district have initiated a continuous 24×7 sit-in protest at Gamgiphai. Their unwavering objective is to urge the Indian government to establish a separate administration.
Gathering in substantial numbers, hundreds of Kuki-Zo women from across the district congregated at Gamgiphai to commence this non-stop protest. The event was graced by leaders from the Committee on Tribal Unity Sadar Hills Kangpokpi.
A spokesperson for the Kuki-Zo women addressed the assembly, articulating their collective decision to sustain the relentless sit-in protest until their demand for a separate administration is fulfilled.
“Our demand for a separate administration is well-founded, entirely consistent with the principles of the Indian Constitution, and in no way antagonistic to the Government of India,” the spokesperson emphasized. “What we seek is liberation from the partiality and subjugation imposed by the Manipur Government.”
The spokesperson further elaborated that their faith in the Government of India led them to lift the economic blockade along the National Highways and decide to claim the remains of their loved ones from the morgue. Despite their cooperation and support, however, the Indian government has yet to address their grievances, prompting this impassioned protest.
“We remain unwavering in our dedication to raising our voices until the Government of India heeds our demand and accedes to the establishment of a separate administration,” she affirmed.

Additionally, the spokesperson underlined the importance of impartiality and fairness in investigations conducted by national agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA). She called for investigations to be devoid of bias and nepotism, ensuring that justice is served without prejudice.
Even during the night, the Kuki-Zo women of Kangpokpi district are resolved to continue their sit-in protest. Their demands were underscored by slogans chanted during the launch of the relay sit-in protest, such as “We Demand Separate Administration” and “No Solutions, No Rest.”
