Itanagar, Feb 02: In Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district, hundreds of people staged a road blockade in the Dirak Gate area, protesting the alleged beating death of a laborer.

Namsai Superintendent of Police Sange Thinley provided details, stating that the victim, 60-year-old Sab Taye, was severely beaten by three fellow workers at a construction site where they all worked together.

Sab Taye, a resident of New Silatoo village in the district, succumbed to his injuries following the assault. The police registered a case, and the three accused laborers were promptly arrested.

During the interrogation, the accused claimed that they had assaulted Taye after catching him stealing a drilling machine and other items from the construction site, according to Thinley.

In response to the killing, hundreds of people from various walks of life staged a dharna (sit-in protest) and initiated a road blockade on Thursday morning.

They demanded the arrest of the contractor who had employed the laborers for the construction work.

Later in the day, the road blockade was lifted, as confirmed by Thingley. He added that the situation remains tense but is under control.
