Bengal Lok Sabha

Kolkata, Aug 29: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised concerns that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might consider holding Lok Sabha elections as early as December this year. Speaking at a rally organized by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) youth wing, Banerjee suggested that the BJP has already booked all available helicopters for their election campaign, potentially impeding other political parties’ campaign efforts.

Banerjee warned that if the BJP were to secure a third consecutive term in power, it could lead to an “autocratic” rule in the country. She expressed her apprehension regarding the possibility of the Lok Sabha elections being held in December or January of the following year.

The Chief Minister criticized the BJP for allegedly fostering animosity among different communities in the country and suggested that a return to power by the saffron party could further divide the nation along communal lines.

Banerjee’s remarks come against the backdrop of ongoing political tensions between the TMC and the BJP in West Bengal. She accused some individuals of engaging in unlawful activities and alleged that these actions were being supported by a few police personnel. She stressed that while the majority of policemen perform their duties with sincerity, some are involved in assisting unlawful activities.

Banerjee also highlighted the recent explosion at an illegal firecracker factory in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, in which nine individuals lost their lives. She urged those associated with the firecracker industry to transition to producing environmentally friendly “green firecrackers,” despite potential reductions in profit.

Furthermore, Banerjee accused West Bengal’s Governor, C V Ananda Bose, of violating constitutional norms and asserted her disapproval of his “unconstitutional activities.” She cautioned against challenging an elected government.

Banerjee, known for her vocal political stance, emphasized her role in ending the three-decade-long rule of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in West Bengal and declared her intent to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In response to Banerjee’s comments, Sujan Chakraborty, a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) central committee, speculated that her statements could be an indication of her vigilance regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s actions. He also suggested that her remarks might be an attempt to mislead other political parties. Chakraborty emphasized the need to observe how events unfold in the coming months.

As the political landscape in West Bengal remains heated, Banerjee’s remarks provide insight into the ongoing rivalry between the TMC and the BJP, with both parties vying for influence in the state and the nation at large. The dynamic between these political forces will play a significant role in shaping West Bengal’s political future.
