Imphal, May 19: A tragic shooting incident occurred near the Nambul river bank at Naorem-thong Khumanthem Takyel Kongbal, under the jurisdiction of Lamphel police station in Imphal West.

Around 7:30 p.m. last night, an unidentified assailant opened fire, resulting in the death of a 41-year-old man and injuries to two others.

The deceased has been identified as Shree Ram Hangsada, a resident of Jharkhand. The injured individuals, Bittu Murmu, 22, and Mitalal Soran, 50, also hail from Jharkhand and are currently receiving medical treatment at RIMS Hospital.

Murmu is the son of Sirlal Murmu of Dokaban Village, and Soran is the son of Dorbori Soran of Mukun Village.

The victims were employed as laborers with Keystone Infra Pvt. Company, a firm engaged in infrastructure projects in the region.

The sudden and violent nature of the attack has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the vulnerability of laborers working far from their homes.

Following the incident, security forces were promptly dispatched to the scene to secure the area and begin the investigation. Police have registered a case at Lamphel police station and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrator.
