Manipur by-poll results updates

Manipur, 10th November: The counting of votes for the Manipur assembly by-poll election began on Tuesday, alongside that of Bihar assembly polls, amid the hectic task of maintaining strict Covid-19 guidelines. The by-polls to four Assembly constituencies in Manipur, where a total of 11 candidates battled it out on Saturday, were concluded peacefully with a high voter turnout of 92.54 percent.

The by-polls in Manipur were prompted after four Congress MLAs resigned from the Assembly and joined the ruling BJP. The four assembly constituencies that went to the polls in Manipur are Wangoi, Lilong, Wangjing Tentha, and Saitu.

Wangoi Assembly Constituency:

  • In Wangoi seat, the National People’s Party (NPP), a partner of the BJP-led ruling coalition in the state, has fielded its candidate against the Congress and the saffron party.
  • BJP candidate Oinam Lukhoi Singh leading
  • Indian National Congress candidate Salam Joy leading.
