Imphal, Jan 01: Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh, in office since 2017, recently chaired a high-level security meeting to address the escalating security concerns in the state.

The meeting comes in the wake of unprecedented attacks against state forces, posing a serious national security threat. Biren Singh emphasized the need for a robust and comprehensive approach by the combined security forces to counter elements attempting to destabilize Manipur.

Expressing concern over recent attacks, Biren Singh highlighted the active engagement of state and central security forces in maintaining control over the situation.

However, he stressed the importance of adopting a stringent approach to deal with elements intent on destabilizing the state.

The Chief Minister announced his participation in a high-level meeting of BJP Manipur, where key leaders, including Smt. @AShardaDevi Ji, President BJP Manipur Pradesh, Hon’ble Ministers, Hon’ble MLAs, and party workers, discussed strategies to address the security challenges.

In response to the May 3, 2023, ethnic violence between the Meitei people of the Imphal Valley and the Kuki-Zo tribal community from the surrounding hills, the meeting aimed to address pressing issues and strategize on ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Manipur.

On December 31, a significant gun battle erupted in Moreh, a Manipur border town, between security forces and armed militants. The militants launched an attack on security forces, resulting in retaliation. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported from the scene.

The Chief Minister’s proactive approach and the high-level meeting reflect the government’s commitment to tackling security challenges and maintaining peace in Manipur.

Additionally, a delegation is set to visit Delhi soon to meet central leaders and discuss the evolving security landscape in the state. The comprehensive strategy discussed in the meeting aims to address the complexities of Manipur’s social landscape and enhance the safety and security of its residents.
