Churachandpur Internet

1. Manipur government extends internet suspension in Churachandpur district until March 2.
2. Decision made due to prevailing law and order issues.
3. Suspension includes mobile data services to maintain security.

Churachandpur, Feb 26: The Manipur government has decided to extend the suspension of internet services, including mobile data, in Churachandpur district for an additional five days until March 2. This decision comes in light of the ongoing law and order concerns within the district.

A recent Home Department order, issued on Sunday evening, cited the need to maintain public safety amid the current circumstances in Churachandpur.

The government reviewed the prevailing law and order situation and determined that extending the internet suspension was necessary.

The order mandates mobile service providers to adhere to the directive, ensuring the continued suspension of internet services throughout the entire revenue jurisdiction of Churachandpur district.

The initial suspension of internet services in the district was implemented on February 16, following incidents of unrest.

A mob had entered the district office complexes of the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner, causing vandalism and setting government properties on fire.

Tragically, two individuals lost their lives during clashes with security forces when protesters stormed the mini-secretariat to express their discontent over the suspension of a head constable.

The suspension was prompted by the circulation of a purported video showing the constable with armed miscreants on social media platforms.
