Imphal, Sept 02: In a deeply distressing incident, a 21-year-old tribal woman in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district fell victim to a horrific assault, where she was allegedly beaten, stripped naked, and paraded in her village by her husband and in-laws. The incident came to light after a video of the horrifying act went viral on social media, causing widespread outrage and condemnation.

According to the Director General of Police (DGP), Umesh Mishra, the incident occurred on Thursday in the village of Nichalkota, located in the Pahada Gram Panchayat under the jurisdiction of the Dhariyavad police station.

The police investigation revealed that the young woman, who had married just last year, was in a relationship with another man and had begun living with him in the same village. This led to severe discontent among her in-laws, who decided to take matters into their own hands.

As per the DGP’s statement, the woman was forcibly taken by her in-laws to their village, where she was subjected to brutal physical assault. Her husband, in particular, played a leading role in the horrifying act. She was not only beaten but also stripped naked and paraded for approximately one kilometer through the village.

The shocking incident came to public attention when a video of the assault surfaced online. The disturbing footage showed a man forcibly removing the woman’s clothing while others recorded the incident on their mobile phones.

This act of extreme brutality has sparked widespread outrage on social media platforms, with people expressing their shock and anger at the incident. Many have called for swift and stringent action against the perpetrators.

Several users on social media platforms like Twitter expressed their dismay and demanded justice for the victim. Some compared the incident to a similar one in Manipur and questioned the response of different groups to the two cases.

In response to the incident, the Rajasthan state government has taken a serious stance. Additional Director General (ADG) Dinesh has been dispatched to Pratapgarh, and six teams have been formed to locate and apprehend the accused individuals. Pratapgarh’s Superintendent of Police, Amit Kumar, is also present in the village to oversee the situation.

Local Congress MLA Nagraj Meena expressed his shock and condemnation of the incident, directing the police to take immediate action. He called the incident reprehensible and assured that the police would act promptly.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has also taken note of the incident and vowed to take strict action against the accused. He stated that such criminals have no place in a civilized society. The DGP has been instructed to send ADG Crime to the location and ensure swift action.

While the perpetrators behind this horrific act managed to escape, the incident has raised serious questions about women’s safety in the state of Rajasthan. Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje criticized the Gehlot government for its inability to protect women, highlighting the state’s unfortunate status as number one in terms of crimes against women. She urged people not to share the video, as it has brought shame to Rajasthan.

BJP leader Gajendra Singh Shekhawat criticized Gehlot for his tall claims regarding women’s safety, pointing out the lack of progress in the case. He questioned the delay in the police investigation and called out the Congress for its perceived hypocrisy.

Chittorgarh MP CP Joshi also expressed his dismay, emphasizing the need for better administration and law enforcement to combat such heinous crimes against women in Rajasthan.

This shocking incident in Rajasthan underscores the urgent need for enhanced measures to protect women and ensure their safety. While swift action against the accused is essential, a broader commitment to creating a safer environment for women is crucial to preventing such horrific incidents in the future.
