Manipur: Kin of diseased COVID patient vandalize the ICU ward of JNIMS hospital | Incident captured in CCTV

Manipur, June 6: Upset and angry over the death of a Covid infected patient allegedly due to medical negligence, the kin of the deceased patient vandalized the ICU ward. The incident happens at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) hospital in Imphal.

In the CCTV footage, it can be seen that the angry family members have thrown the equipment inside the ICU ward.

As per the information, the patient was in critical condition when admitted to the hospital and the doctor asks to shift him to the ICU ward but the family denied it. After treating for at least 3 days, finally, the patient shifted to ICU and was in support of non-invasive ventilation.

The doctor then suggested the family members for intubation but they denied the same. The condition of the patient was so serious that he couldn’t survive and succumbed to the COVID.

In the last 24 hours, as many as 717 patient have tested positive for COVID in Manipur. With the new cases, the total number of active cases in the state rose to 9,016 and the cumulative number of confirmed cases reached 54,407.

The new positive cases were reported from Imphal West (245), Imphal East (141), Churachandpur (98), Thoubal (84), Kakching (47), Bishnupur (41), Chandel (23), Tamenglong (12), Senapati (10), Ukhrul (6), Kangpokpi (5), Noney (3), Kamjong (1), and Tengnoupal (1) districts, respectively.

Meanwhile, nine more persons succumbed due to COVID-19 complications on Saturday. The state’s death toll stands at 872.

The COVID-19 victims are reported from Imphal East (4), Imphal West (3), Bishnupur (1) and Kakching (1). Also, with 740 more persons discharged on Saturday, the total number of recoveries stands at 44,519. The recovery rate stands at 81.82%
