Guwahati, March 03: Assam Police and railway authorities conducted a joint operation on March 2 at Gossaigaon railway station in Kokrajhar district, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of cannabis and the apprehension of two individuals.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Surat Jamal, a resident of Sapkata in Gossaigaon sub-division, and Farooq Abdullah, a resident of Malaguri.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Nidul Gogoi, the in-charge of Gossaigaon Sadar police station, along with railway police personnel stationed at Gossaigaon railway station, intercepted a smuggling attempt.

They confiscated 18 kg of cannabis, which the arrested individuals were attempting to transport from Gossaigaon to Delhi via the Namanimua Brahmaputra Mail car.

The seized cannabis has an estimated market value of over Rs 10 lakh.

Authorities have launched further investigations to uncover additional links and potential accomplices involved in the smuggling operation.
