Meghalaya, 9th October: On Friday, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, inaugurated the new school building of Bajengdoba Higher Secondary School in North Garo Hills District funded by the Supporting Human Capital Development Project of Asian Development bank. This was done in the presence of Deputy Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Timothy D. Shira; MLA of Bajengdoba, Pongseng Marak and MLA of Kharkutta, Rupert Momin. Sangma stated that this school will certainly provide an enabling atmosphere for innovative learning to the students.
Conrad highly appraised the effort of the stakeholders for their coordinated support to improve the educational facilities in the district. He said that education has been the topmost priority by the MDA government, and mentioned that the government has undertaken the responsibility to develop infrastructure and learning facilities in schools across Meghalaya.
Deploring the lack of necessities in most of the elementary schools, especially in rural areas including water and electricity connection, the CM notified that the government has assembled funds close to Rs. 500 crores from various funding agencies with addition to its resources to renovate and improve infrastructure facilities in LP schools across the state.
New age teaching and learning tools, a computer lab and two smart classrooms have been equipped in the new school building for innovative learning. He also stated, “There was an urgent need to improve health care facilities as the majority of the health care centres do not have adequate facilities, including accommodation for doctors, and paramedical staffs. In a phase-wise manner, the government will use the earmarked funds to ensure better health care services for its people.”
The CM also versed that the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt of India has sanctioned Rs. 4000 crores to ensure that water reaches every household in the State. The Jal Jeevan Mission is ongoing and he claimed that it is to ensure pipe water connection to every household in the state.
