Shillong, June 29: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has dismissed claims of any family discord regarding the selection of a candidate for the upcoming Gambegre bypolls.
CM Sangma’s statement follows reports suggesting that his wife, Mehtab Chandee, is a leading contender for the crucial bypolls.
Media reports also indicate that CM’s brother, James PK Sangma, is in contention for the party ticket, which could potentially create tension if Chandee is chosen.
On June 27, the National People’s Party (NPP) shortlisted four candidates, one of whom will be finalized as the party’s candidate in the coming week.

Following a significant loss in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the NPP is actively preparing for the Gambegre bypolls, with party leaders evaluating potential candidates.
