Meghalaya prisoners

Shillong, Sep 12: Four undertrial prisoners, who escaped from prison, had been allegedly killed by the mob in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, police stated.

A group of six prisoners escaped from the Jowai prison on Saturday when they overpowered the prison staff, and 5 of them reached Shangpung village on Sunday, approximately 70 km away, they stated.

Around three pm, whilst one of the prisoners went to a tea keep to shop for food, he turned into diagnosed through the locals, and the whole vicinity turned into alerted, village headman R Rabon said.

A massive range of humans grew to become up and chased the institution of prisoners to a close-by forest. A purported video of the incident confirmed irritated villagers, armed with sticks, apprehending the prisoners and beating them mercilessly.

Four prisoners died in the attack while one managed to escape, Rabon stated.

Inspector-General of Prisons JK Marak stated, “It is authentic that a set of villagers apprehended 4 of the escaped prisoners and sooner or later lynched them. Our officials have reached the vicinity and I am waiting for greater information.”

“We are ascertaining their identities however I am instructed that I love you Talang is amongst the ones dead,” he added.

Officials stated that Ramesh Dkhar controlled to break out from the mob, even as the 6th prisoner turned into nowhere to be visible at some point of the assault.

The others who escaped had been Marsanki Tariang, Rikamenlang Lamare, Shidorki Dkhar, and Lodestar Tang, they stated.
