This three-day festival aims not only to showcase the exceptional quality of Meghalaya’s succulent Kew pineapples but also to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the region.

The journey of Meghalaya’s pineapples from local delicacies to global recognition is noteworthy. Chief Minister Sangma highlighted that these pineapples are now being sold in malls in Dubai, Kuwait, and Sharjah, thanks to the persistent efforts of the state government and all stakeholders.

What sets Meghalaya’s pineapples apart is their premium quality, with sweetness measured by a high brix value of 16-18. This unique flavor profile has made them a sought-after fruit, even among major retailers like Reliance, in addition to being exported to other countries. The newfound popularity of Meghalaya’s pineapples is opening up significant markets for farmers who are reaping the benefits of their hard work.

In terms of pineapple production, the North-Eastern States collectively contribute a substantial 51.18 percent to the total production in India. Meghalaya, contributing 7.69 percent (APEDA 2021-22), ranks among the top five pineapple-producing states in India. This achievement reflects not only the fertile lands of Meghalaya but also the dedication and perseverance of its farmers.

Meghalaya’s Pineapples have not only brought pride to the state but also showcased the potential of Indian agriculture on a global platform. The recognition from Prime Minister Modi underscores the importance of celebrating and supporting such agricultural endeavors that empower farmers and promote India’s rich agricultural heritage on the world stage. As these succulent pineapples find their way onto international shelves, they represent the sweet success of Indian agriculture.
