Meghalaya Schools

Shillong, June 17: Meghalaya Schools closed amid bad weather conditions in the state and nearby areas. All schools in Meghalaya will be closed from today – June 17, 2022. The orders of schools closed would stay in effect till June 20, 2022, as per the official circular.

Meghalaya, Assam, and many northeastern areas have been experiencing bad weather conditions. Heavy rainfall, water logging, and resulting flood-like situations have affected the day-to-day life of people residing in these areas.

Taking into account the weather predictions of heavy rainfall, Meghalaya schools will be closed from June 17 to 20, 2022. The same has been done for the safety of everyone and people have been advised to not venture out, unless absolutely necessary.

The official orders on Schools closed read, “In view of the inclement weather and warning by IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) MET Centre Shilldig on heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely Heavy Rainfall which is very likely to continue over Meghalaya during next 5 days, all Schools shall remain closed w.e.f. 17′ June up to 20′ June 2022. The respective Deputy Commissioner(s) are advised to assess and examine on a case-to-case basis, the safety for reopening of schools in their respective districts.”

All students and teachers of Meghalaya schools are advised to not go to their campus and comply with the orders. Further, they must stay in touch with their schools for updates on reopening. Many other parts of North-East India have also issued safety alerts amid incessant rainfall.
