Shillong, Feb 08: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has alleged that several Meghalaya TMC workers of Phulbari were attacked by NPP workers at the Charbatapara booth under the constituency, on Tuesday night.
The attack took place around 10.30 pm.
The NPP workers vandalized the meeting place of Meghalaya TMC, the AITC said in a statement.
“The NPP workers barged into the meeting premises creating a ruckus. Following this, Nozrul Hoque, 59, was injured. Party workers rushed him to the nearby CHC,” the statement said.
Meghalaya TMC candidate SG Esmatur Mominin is in contact with the injured party workers. Gory visuals have emerged from the spot in which the Meghalaya TMC worker can be seen bleeding profusely.
Meghalaya TMC candidate SG Esmatur Mominin said that “a social feast was organized by my relatives in Charbatapara under the Phulbari constituency, in which my uncle invited the villagers and their relatives to the feast and I also attended the same. I reached his house around 9.30 am. As soon as I reached there was a procession led by MBC Shyamnagar constituency and suddenly the procession stopped in front of my uncle’s house people present in that particular procession started pelting stones and bricks and 4 to 5 people got injured. After that those injured were taken to Phulbari CSC for necessary treatment. It is really shocking that this procession was taken out without any permission and this unfortunate incident took place. I would request all my supporters to be patient, please tolerate the situation and don’t create any kind of chaos, and work for the betterment of your constituency.”
A total of 379 candidates, including 37 women, have filed their nominations for the February 27 election to the 60-member assembly in Meghalaya.
