Agartala, Sept 22: Passengers on board a Guwahati-Agartala IndiGo flight experienced a mid-air scare on Thursday when a passenger attempted to open an emergency door, according to an Airports Authority of India official.

The man, identified as 41-year-old Biswajit Debath from West Tripura’s Jirania, was promptly detained upon landing.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 pm when an unruly passenger, who appeared to be intoxicated, tried to open an emergency door mid-flight. Fortunately, other passengers intervened and thwarted the attempt. The plane subsequently landed safely in Agartala.

The incident transpired when the aircraft was flying just 15 miles away from the runway at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.

Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Law and Order, Jyotishamn Das Chowdhury, stated that legal action would be taken against the passenger for endangering the lives of others.

The detained passenger will be subjected to questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into the matter.
