Aizawl, May 09: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma expressed optimism on Wednesday regarding the exemption of the 510-km-long stretch of the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram from fencing, according to an official statement.

In an interaction with leaders of the Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO) in Aizawl, Lalduhoma also conveyed hope that the Union government would retain the existing Free Movement Regime (FMR) with the neighbouring country, the official added.

Lalduhoma informed ZORO members that he had held discussions on these matters with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He requested them to maintain the status quo regarding the border.

ZORO, based in Aizawl, is a Mizo group advocating for the reunification of all Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi tribes of India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar under one administrative unit.

The organization announced plans to organize peaceful rallies at Zokhawthar and Vaphai along the India-Myanmar border on May 16 to protest against the Centre’s decision to fence the border and terminate the FMR.
