Mizoram CM lays foundation stone of sports infrastructure

Mizoram, Dec 11: Mizoram CM Zoramthanga laid the foundation stone for 118 crore worth sports infrastructure for Kawrthah, Tuidam, and Mamit. These seven infrastructure projects in the Mamit district of the state will be funded by the Sports & Youth Services Department’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK).

Mizoram CM laid the foundation stone for a Residential Sports School (project cost Rs. 3286.34 lakhs) and Smart Classroom (Rs. 17.54 lakhs) in Kawrthah, an Astroturf Football ground (Rs. 532.50 lakhs) in Tuidam, a Residential Sports School (Rs.3286.34 Lakhs), District Sports Complex (Rs. 4496.48 Lakhs), Community Service Centre (Sadvhav Mandab) (Rs.236.00 Lakhs) and two Smart Classrooms (Rs. 35.08 Lakhs) in Mamit.

On this occasion, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga said “happy to see the beginning of a journey of many opportunities for the youth and hopes the youth will make the best use of these opportunities.”

CM also spoke on the importance of having good roads for the development of the state, saying even farmers need good quality link roads to be able to sell their produce. As such we are working hard on building good roads for the people.

Though some works have been halted due to the Covid19 pandemic, we are hoping that the condition will get better and we will be able to put in our best efforts to work,” he added.

Sports and Youth Services Minister Robert Romawia Royte said “despite the state of Mizoram having poor sports infrastructure, the youth of Mizoram have stood out in various sports disciples in the state as well as across the nation.”

The Residential Schools in Mamit and Kawrthah will have academic buildings as well as 100 bedded boys’ and girls’ hostel, multipurpose hall, Astro football turf, principal and staff quarters, basketball and volleyball court, and RCC tank. The first instalment of Rs. 1478.85 Lakhs has been received for the construction of these schools.

Once the proposed sports infrastructures have been completed, he hoped that many youths will be trained from the sports centres who will make the state proud,” Royte added.

The proposed Smart Classrooms will have an Internet A technology-based education system with Computer, Printer, and Television (TV).

For the Mamit District Sports Complex, out of the Rs.4496.48 Lakhs approved funds, the 1st Installment of Rs.2023.41 Lakhs has been received. This sports complex will have a Synthetic Football Turf and Pavilion, Synthetic Athletic Track, Multi-sports Indoor Stadium, Indoor Shooting Range, Boxing, and Contact Sports Centre, Gymnasium, and Dormitories & Training Facilities.

The Mamit Community Service Centre will have a Computer Room, Office and Committee Room in its basement, a Public Meeting Hall cum Badminton Hall on the ground floor and the Mid-level, Table Tennis courts as well as Changing Rooms and Toilets.

In Tuidam khelmual, Laldenga Football Ground will be constructed with artificial turf. It was sanctioned a fund of Rs. 532.50 lakhs from which the 1st Installment of Rs.239.62 lakhs has been received. The football ground will be of a FIFA 2 Star standard.
